Peabody, Ruth Brown, Houlton ME

     HOULTON - Ruth B. Peabody passed away August 19, 2013, at a local healthcare facility.

     She was born October 9, 1911, at Abbot Village in Hartland, ME, the daughter of Charles O. and Bertha (Small) Brown.Ruth started school at an early age. She entered grade school as a four year old, attended Hartland Academy, and the age of sixteen was a 1928 honor graduate of Lawrence High School. She furthered her education at Colby College, was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and graduated in 1932. After college, she left to go to Massachusetts to become a nanny, but was called to come back to Lawrence High School to teach. While teaching at Lawrence High School, Ruth met her future husband, Woodrow Peabody, who was the Colby College football coach. They married in 1937 and moved to Houlton. Ruth and Woody lived, worked and raised their three sons in Houlton. When the boys were grown, Ruth returned to teaching in the mid 1960's, retiring in 1973. Her early years were as a classroom teacher, but the later years she served as an assistant librarian at Houlton High School.Ruth loved to cook and always had a pot of something simmering on her stove; ready to feed whoever walked into her kitchen. She was a competitive spirit and loved a good game of cards with friends. Her favorite place was East Grand Lake where she and her husband, Woody built a cottage. She inspired the whole family with same feeling, as all three boys and the grandchildren continue to love the lake. At age 101, she was able to attend the 4th of July celebration at camp.

     Ruth is survived by her three sons, James Peabody and his wife, Mary of Houlton, David Peabody of Orient and Ronald Peabody and his wife, Jodi of Hodgdon; five grandchildren, Lauren Fitzpatrick, and her husband, Chris, Barrett Peabody and his wife, Erica, Janel Nelson, and her husband, Steve, Micah Peabody, and his wife, Jane, Jessica Jacobson, and her husband, Matt. She had nine beautiful great-grandchildren that she treasured: Kelsey and James Fitzpatrick, Jacob Peabody, Elias and Ian Nelson, Aimee and Barrett (Little Bear) Peabody and Ella Jacobson. She was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow Peabody, her brother Robert Brown and great granddaughter, Mattie Jacobson. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank Dr.Ted Sussman, Dr. Karl Woods, and Helen Sherwood for their special attention "above and beyond". It was greatly appreciated. A big thanks also to Gail Duff, Megan Murphy, Brenda McLaughlin for their support and dedication to Ruth.At her request there will be no service. Peabody, Dorothy E., Machias ME

      MACHIAS - Dorothy E. Peabody went to be with her loving Lord Jan. 13, 2013. Dorothy was born Sept. 23, 1934, daughter of the late Harvard and Bertha Phinney.

     Dorothy was always there to give a helping hand to anyone that needed it and was known for her card sending. She loved the Lord, her church, her gardens, yard sales, time with family at the beach, taking rides with family, circle word books and camping with her children when they were young. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her most enjoyable pleasure on earth.

     She is survived by her children. Harvard Peabody and best friend, Tina, Leslie Peabody and wife, Brenda, Annette Ramirez, Gregory Peabody, Milford Peabody and wife, Penny, Dawn Peabody and her cat, Mei, and Mary Look and husband, Dale; and special daughter-in-law, Jackie Peabody. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Beal and Ethlyn Willey, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is also survived by special friends, Jeannie Beal, Joyce Alley, Leona Libby, Irma Chandler, Doreen Thompson and Katie Nicely; and sister, Ruth Carver. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Harvard and Bertha Phinney; brothers, John, Alvin and Harvard Phinney Jr.; sisters, Celia Kennedy, Sophia Torrey, Sylvia Brooks and Alverta Phinney; ex-husband, Bertram W. Peabody; son, Bertram E. "Beppie" Peabody; and daughters, Ella Louise Peabody and Nadine "Peabody" Robinson. Mom, we all will forever love and miss you always.Viewing will be held 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Advent Christian Church, Mill Pond Road, Beals, where a funeral service will begin 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17. Peabody, Hazel, Lincolnville ME

     LINCOLNVILLE - Hazel Peabody, 89, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014 of natural causes.

     Hazel was born June 23, 1924 in East Union and was the second of Allen and Bernice (Gracie) Young's five daughters. After graduating from Union High School, she followed in her mother's footsteps and continued her education at Farmington State Teacher's College, graduating in 1945. She began her teaching career in the West Forks in 1945, teaching grades 1 through 6 at the one-room schoolhouse with a class of 16 students. While teaching in Augusta, Hazel met her future husband Neal Peabody of Washington. They were married in June of 1949 and moved to Camden where Hazel continued her teaching career for the next six years. Hazel put her career on a seven year hold through her children's preschool years, and later returned to teaching in Lincolnville and eventually in Camden elementary schools. She retired from teaching in 1985 to her home on Norton Pond in Lincolnville. Hazel was very active in the Seaside Chapter #70 of Order of the Eastern Star faithfully serving in ten different offices including 20 years as the chapter secretary. She was a past Matron of Seaside Chapter #70 OES Camden and helped organize and was first Matron of Ocean View Chapter #201. In addition, she was also a past President of the Knox County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Lincolnville Women's Club. A current member of the United Christian Church of Lincolnville, she was a former John Street United Methodist Church in Camden. A life-long Boston Red Sox fan, she was thrilled by the recent Championships of her team. Hazel had a gift of touching the hearts of those she met, sharing stories and memories. Her unconditional love of family showed in everything she did from her cooking to her handiwork, both of which many have enjoyed the fruits of her labor. Her biscuits, baked beans and apple pies were her specialty. The family holds many fond memories of Norton's Pond because of what Hazel and Neal built. Hazel would want us to celebrate her 89 years as she and Neal were reunited in honor of Valentine's Day.

     Survivors include her children Glenn and Mary Anne Peabody of Brunswick; Betty and Glenn Lane of Sabattus; Becky and Al Shultz of Brewer; six grandchildren Katie (Peabody) and Ben Grant of LisbonFalls; Andrea (Lane) and Nick Schaedler of Bowdoin, Kelly Shultz and partner Matt York of Hampden, Matt Peabody of Waltham, MA, Ben Shultz of Brewer, and Michelle Lane from Sabattus; great-granddaughter Adalynn Schaedler; two sisters, Helen Grotton of South China and Charlotte Young of Homosasssa Springs, FL; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Neal Peabody in 2011; two sisters, Alfreda Grotton and Marion Collins; and extended family members. A funeral service followed by a reception will be held at 1PM, Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden with the Rev. Peg Moser and the Rev. Dr. Susan Stonestreet co-officiating. Spring burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden. Peabody, Joan M. (Boudreau), Dixmont ME

     DIXMONT - Joan Marie (Boudreau) Peabody passed away peacefully March 14, 2013, at home after a lengthy illness, with her devoted husband of 53 years by her side.

     She was born May 31, 1933, in Old Town, to the late Peter and Grace Boudreau.She was also predeceased by a brother, Peter; and three sons, Michael, Tony and Ricky.

     She is survived by husband, Richard; son, Jeff and wife of Clearwater, Fla.; daughter, Kitty-Jo Harvey of Morrill; brother, Richard of Hawaii; sister, Betty Seaver of Augusta; mother-in-law, Gladys Peabody; brothers-in-law, Robert, Raymond and Maurice; and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Ginger; as well as eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a member of East Dixmont Community Church.At her request, she has been cremated and her ashes will be interred in the family lot at Pond Cemetery, Unity. The family is hosting a celebration of life 1 p.m. April 6, at Gold Crest Rider's Snowmobile Clubhouse, Dixmont.

Peabody, Neal M., Lincolnville ME

     LINCOLNVILLE - If Neal were to write his own obituary it would read, "Neal M. Peabody of Lincolnville died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012. If you knew me, you knew what I did." Brief and to the point, but inadequate when summarizing the life of a man who has made such a great impact in the community in which he lived.

   Born June 5, 1926, in Washington, Neal was the son of Ulric and Esther (Lenfest) Peabody, the eldest of their four sons. He attended school in Washington and was a 1944 graduate of Union High School. He worked briefly at Bath Iron Works as a welder before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. On June 29, 1949, he married his beloved Hazel E. Young from East Union, at Peoples United Methodist Church, Union. They moved to Camden, where he worked as a mechanic at Boynton's Chevrolet then later for the town of Camden in the public works garage. Neal had his hands in many community endeavors throughout Lincolnville and Camden, including Camden Outing Club, Lincolnville and Camden fire departments, Camden First Aid Association, as well as the CFA Access Team. He also was a longtime volunteer at Owls Head Transportation Museum. His involvement in community activities has been and continues to be an inspiration and example to all. Neal was a member of all York Rite Bodies of the Masons, having joined in 1953, and holds the York Cross of Honor. He also served for 15 years as worthy patron of Order of the Eastern Star after joining the organization in 1954.

     Surviving is his bride of 62-plus years, Hazel Peabody of Lincolnville; his children, Glenn and Mary Anne Peabody of Brunswick, Betty and Glenn Lane of Sabattus and Becky and Al Shultz of Brewer; six grandchildren, Katie Peabody Grant and her husband, Ben, Andrea Lane Schaedler and her husband, Nick, Kelly Shultz, Matt Peabody, Ben Shultz and Michelle Lane; one brother, Esten Peabody of Winslow; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Spring burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Camden. An open house in honor of Neal will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Lincolnville Fire Station, 470 Camden Road, Lincolnville. Peabody, Ronald Hilton, Bristol and Beals Island ME

     BRISTOL AND BEALS ISLAND - Ronald Hilton Peabody, 53, of Bristol, passed away peacefully Aug. 30, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

  After being diagnosed with metastatic esophageal cancer, "Capt. Ron" was taken home from Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center to be cared for by his sister, Cheryl Szacik; longtime girlfriend, Fran Kinney; and his parents, Earl and Sylvia Peabody. Capt. Ron was born March 9, 1959, in Portsmouth, N.H., but considered Beals Island his true home. He was the son of Earl and Sylvia Peabody, formerly of Beals. He spent many hours with his beloved grampy on the ocean - lobster fishing and developing his love for the ocean and boating. This was wonderful preparation for his more than 20 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard. 1st Class Boatswain's Mate Peabody retired in 1999, after serving at numerous locations in the New England area, including the Jonesport station from 1981 to 1985 and the Boothbay Harbor station from 1994 until his retirement. His assignments took him to a fog signal station, four lighthouses, six search and rescue stations, a buoy tender and a security detachment force for two presidents. After retirement he worked on or ran a variety of boats from Nova Scotia to Norfolk, Va., consisting of commercial assistance tow boats, tug boats, ferry boats, excursion boats and a research vessel, along with being a private captain on several recreational boats. His dream of saving a piece of U.S. Coast Guard maritime history was accomplished with his restoration of a 36-foot motor lifeboat, built for the Coast Guard in 1941, which he used for Capt. Ron's Cruises out of Boothbay Harbor for four summers. He also operated Capt. Ron's Marine Services, which included a captain-for-hire and on the water training. He was a member of the Community of Christ since age 11. He was also a member of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Lighthouse Preservation Society, Island Institute and a charter member of Beals Historical Society.

     He is survived by his parents, Earl and Sylvia Peabody of Rochester, N.H.; his sister and her husband, Cheryl and Peter Szacik of Madbury, N.H.; aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Jon Gordon of Eliot; aunts, Dorothy Peabody of Beals and Madelene Peabody of Jonesport; uncle, Gleason Peabody of Waldoboro; stepnieces and stepnephew, Kaitlin, Meghan and Daniel Szacik; cousins and their families, Mike and Amy Fuller, Geoff and Kathy Gordon, Harvard Peabody, Leslie and Brenda Peabody, Gregory Peabody, Milford and Penny Peabody, Annette Peabody-Ramirez, Dawn Peabody, Mary and Dale Look, and Jackie Peabody; a very special girlfriend, Fran Kinney and her son, Richard; and a special Coast Guard buddy, Steve Burns. Ron was predeceased by his beloved black lab, Spike, who was his constant companion for 15 years; grandparents, Farrell and Myrtle Lenfestey of Beals, Milford and Ruth Peabody of Waldoboro and Mary Peabody Alley of Jonesport; uncle, Bertram Peabody of Jonesport; and cousins, Ella Peabody, Bertram Earl Peabody and Nadine Robinson.Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Community of Christ Church, Beals Island, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, with full military honors.

Peabody, Douglas, Columbus OH

     Douglas Peabody, age 53, of Columbus, passed away August 12, 2012.

    Graduate from Culver Military Academy in 1977 and attended the Ohio State University, studying Landscape Architecture. He started Peabody Landscape Construction with his brother in 1980 and was President of Central Ohio Top Soil and Mulch from 1995-2005. He was also involved in entrepreneurial business opportunities in glass manufacturing from 2005-2012.

    Preceded in death by mother Patricia J. Peabody and father Thurman J. Peabody. Survived by brothers David G. (Barbara) Peabody and Lt. General John W. Peabody, nephews Christopher, Benjamin and Matthew, nieces Olivia and Samantha; along with numerous loving relatives and a host of well primed friends. Doug was always concerned about others less fortunate and in need; he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial 10:30 am Thursday at. St. Bridget of Kildare, 7179 Avery Rd., Dublin, OH 43017.Graveside service will be held 11 am Friday at St. Paul Cemetery, 55 Southwest St. Norwalk, OH 44857. Peabody, David H., Ludlow MA

     David H. Peabody 73, of Ludlow passed away after a 19 month battle with cancer.

     He was born to the late David Harry Peabody of Lynn, MA and Ann Yonko of Trenton, NJ. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, as a member of US Air Force. He received an honorable discharge in July of 1966. He was a member of the American Legion Chapter 277 located in Indian Orchard and served on the color guard for the Post and was a member of the Fraternal Eagles Club. He worked for over 20 years at Carando in Springfield. During his spare time he loved watching the Red Sox's and the Patriots win their way to championships. He also loved woodworking and the ocean.

     Besides being survived by his wife Susan Lanza Peabody he is survived by two sons David Peabody of West Springfield and Bobby Peabody and his wife Deanne of Indian Orchard, two stepsons William Lanza of Ware and Edward Lanza of Ludlow, two stepdaughters Sharon Laurin and husband Michael of South Hadley and Cindy Lanza of Ludlow, two sisters Dorothy Mylin and husband Leroy of Gloucester, MA and Leona Pouland of Florida. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Memorial Contributions can be made to a charity of one's choice . Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home located at 985 Main St. Agawam, MA 01001. At the request of the family funeral services were privately held.

     Our beloved mother was born June 5, 1926 in Heman, Fremont County, Idaho, the daughter of Murray Clifford Hunter and Birdie Marie Grover Hunter.

     She was the third child of a family of 10 children, 7 girls and 3 boys. Three months after her 86th birthday, she passed away on Sept. 5, 2012 in Tremonton, Box Elder County, Utah, having lived in a nursing home for nearly 7 full years.Her first husband, Clarence O. Frederiksen, was killed in World War II. The only child of that union was Joyce Marie Frederiksen Peabody (Mrs. Ralph Steenblik).

     Her second husband, LeRoy Peabody (deceased), provided her with three more daughters: Theo "B" Peabody Clayton (deceased); Martha Lee Peabody (Mrs. Jerry Lawson); Betty "D" Peabody Bigler Mobley (deceased). She has 6 grandchildren (one is deceased); 15 Great Grandchildren; and three Great Great Grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include 3 sisters and 1 brother. Life-long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Worked at many jobs in different areas her of residences. Fulfilled a mission for the LDS Church in Salt Lake City at the Genealogy Library. Friends and family may call on Monday evening 6 to 8 pm at Rudd Funeral Home, 1234 South Main Garland, Utah.
